Missing Operating System

Here is my environment:
Lenovo Desktop 2558-1ZU, 2nd Generation Intel CPU 3.3ghz 1TB Harddrive and 8Gig Ram running Windows 7 64bit

I've been running Systweak when I had a XP system without any problems. but now I am having a Windows 7 Registry problem I think

For the past two months, anytime I reboot, it quickly comes back : MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM.
So, I start to run all the normal diagnostic tools to rebuild the boot record, scan the system for missing files, Windows 7 repair disk, all which do not find any problem
I've been getting around this by at bootup, just holding down F12 key and then selecting the hard drive, which will boot up fine., which sorta of makes me think its something
to do with the boot record, since it would bootup by itself, but when I select the device to bootup it works fine.

At one time eliminated this problem, by having Systweak restore a registry from months ago. That corrected the problem, but I needed to install some software to get me back
to where I was before. Then after a short time, the MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM came back. It might be a corupted file, a bad install somewhere, not sure. But I am pretty confident if I can find a Systweak saved registy from about 5 months ago, it should work.

The question I really have, is that in the Systweak package are they any diagnostic aids I can run to help isolate this problem? Looking at the Windows 7 forums, the solution was to go out and get PC Utility Kit or Sportmau. I am not sure of those tuneup packages could offer any more than Systweak does.

While I understand this is a Windows 7 system error, I am trying to use Systweak to help me identify the problem.

Any suggestions?

Yes, its a Seagate Hard drive, so I got the in depth diagnostics from them .. They ran, no errors found.
In my bios the hard drive is the device to boot up on first. (and saved) When I had problems like this with XP, I could find them easier. I spent most of my 35 years with IBM with Mainframes and PCs (IBM's OS2), the first Pentiums, etc. I have built so many desktops. I've taken out the hard drive, cables re-seated them, no problem.
I have a device that I can take a SATT harddrive and view it from another computer via USB The hard drive appears to be fine.
Everything is telling me to point to the registry or some boot record corruption.
One thing that as bugged me, I can not run SFC /scannow The dos window pops and goes away in a second.
I am game and open for suggestions
