I am building a new PC, using an AMD FX8350 on a MSI 970A-G46 mobo. I have G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL (2 X 4MB). I also have one stick of G.Skill F3-14900CL10S-8GBXL. Which would be better for this build?

Solution
First..
Big NO to that mobo..
MSI 970A-G46 won't run FX8350...crappy vrm, no heatsink for power phase..well, this one is very easy to burn..
it's just limited to fx6300 class cpu..

second..
get G.Skill F3-14900CL10S-8GBXL..
because 970/990fx chipset support 1866Mhz natively. and it'll be faster than G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL..
But..
If you only have single stick G.Skill F3-14900CL10S-8GBXL, then go with 2xG.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL.
Because G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL in dual channel will a lot faster than G.Skill F3-14900CL10S-8GBXL in single channel..

yeah..
i said "but"..right..?

Actually my main concern is OP mobo..
if he's not already buy it, get a better mobo..
even biostar ta970fxe is better than that mobo..well, actually even crappy $45 gigabyte 78lmt-usb3 is better..

well, at he should pair it with at least asus m5a97 r2..or asus m5a97 r2 evo version..

just a suggestion..:D

If the F3-14900CL10S is much of a better performer than the 12800CL9D, I can get another 8 GB stick of it so as to have a pair.

Its not massively better and 8gb should be fine of the other memory. I wouldn't spend money for an 1866 kit if I had a working 1600 kit in front of me :)

Interested in your mobo comment. I just recently built another PC using the 970A-G46 with the AMD F8350, and have had no problems.

But since I do have this single stick of 1866, I need to do something with it anyway. I can just buy another, to give me a pair, and also 16GB.

Honestly its up to you I would just ebay the stick or something before I would go buy another one, no need for it at this moment and I always prefer Free over $70 for another stick.
