Why do I get such terrible FPS?

Hi Everyone,
I am currently running a FX8150 with an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 board along wtih a 2GBDDR3 Radeon HD 6450. I have 16GB of DDR3 RAM in the machine also. My question is that when i play games (for example wow) i get no more the 30fps. I am sure this should be way more than this. Has anyone experienced the same problem or could anyone give me some tips as to what to look into? My PSU is 450W and I am thinking it may be throttling the system at the moment but I don't want to go spend £50 on a new one if I don't need to. Any advice would be great.

Regards

Chris

Daswilhelm has it right about the graphics card; the HD6450 is a HTPC card, not a gaming card. The cheapest gaming card I'd buy is a GDDR5 version of the HD7750. You should be able to find a HD7770 for not much more though.
The FX-x1xx AMD CPUs are indeed under-performers, but are still reasonably capable. That's perhaps a more long-term replacement, but the graphics card should be replaced first. A quality 450W PSU should have no trouble with a midrange card on up to a HD7850 or GTX650Ti Boost. What is the brand and model of your PSU? Does it have a 6-pin PCIe cable (currently unused)?

Hi Everyone,
yeah I was thinking this might be the problem. It was a last minute thing as the person who sold me the pc didnt have a gpu install and only had the onboard. So if I was going to spend around £100 what would you recommend?

Thanks
Chris

Most low-end (i.e. all but a very few) CM PSUs are only a notch or two above junk. They are overrated and/or missing protection circuits. Their newest ones are now made by Seasonic, but they're not the cheap ones either. On a budget, the Antec EA-380D or VP-450 is strong enough for any graphics card with a single six-pin PCIe connector.

This is correct, however their newer PSU's are excellent. If the OP only wants a low end PSU he should just stick with the best brand out there... Seasonic.
