I am planing on getting a Radeon 7870 and i already have an fx 6300 but with a CX 430W. I just wanted to know if i can keep my psu (because i don't want to spend anymore money) with no problems. i have not overclocked and i am definitely NOT going to overclock in the future! my full specs are

Fx 6300

8GB 1600 RAM

Corsair CX 430W 80 plus bronze

WD Caviar Blue 1TB

Asus M5A78-L USB3

NZXT Source 210 Elite

I have a 7770 but as you know i am goin to upgrade to 7870.

Thanks in advance!

Hello.
Your PSU will be able to deliver enough power for FX6300 + 7870, so don't worry.
In a heavy gaming scenario your whole system will need 300watt CPU + GPU + System.

Just 60watts more than 7770.
So you will be easily ok.

Well, technically you'll need a 500w PSU. That said, you could go with your existing CX 430w; it really depends on the total power required by all the components though. If anything, try a Power Supply Calculator first, for example: http://www.enermax.outervision.com/ to see where you are.

By the way, you can buy a decent/certified 550w PSU for about 50-60 dollars, say at NewEgg or TigerDirect.

Hi,

I am using the following rig with no problems:

Asus AM3+ mobo
FX 6300be @ 4ghz
Asus GTX 560ti DirectCU2
Seagate 500GB HDD
Kingston 120GB SSD
Fan controller
Corsair H50 (the old one with the larger pump)
4 x 2GB of Ripsaw G skill RAM @ 1600mhz
Corsair CX430M

All of this works perfectly and I have had no problems so far. I have stressed all the components in various games and the power supply seems to be coming like a boss! I suspect that in 2-3 years if you play a lot of games, then this PSU will eventually deteriorate, but as of now...you will be absolutely fine. Corsair are a good brand and use decent components, I think corsair as a company pair up with big name brands like Seasonic to make their PSU's so you can rely on them.

Hope this helps,

Jason
