Got a CX500M power supply and not working

I got a CX500M fresh out of the box and I build my PC with it, after testing the PC nothing will turn on or even power. Eventually I narrowed it down to the power supply and realized it's the issue. Whenever I plug in the PSU seperately and flip the switch on the back, I hear nothing to indicate it even turned on. Any help troubleshooting or did I just get unlucky or am I stupid?

The switch at the back won't cause the power supply to actually start up.
The motherboard power connectors must be attached.
Pushing the power button of the PC then causes the motherboard to start the PSU.
