Hi, i have a dell precision 690, it came with 2 processors (2x dual core 3ghz hyperthread; shown up 8 cores) i tried swapping for 2x quad core x5355. But only 1 processor would work, after a week of tinkering, i now have the latest bios (a08, tried all others aswell) I have Windows ultimate 64 bit, as someone told me using home premium allows you to only use 1 processor(although i knew this was wrong as i used 2 processors before)

In advanced boot options, it is unticked, bios recgonises both processors, and so does windows in computer management, but only 4 cpu grpahs show up in task manager, what could be the problem? I am stumped!

Thanks in advance guys!

you need professional or ultimate, the rest of the op systems dont pick up the second one, I had the exact same problem with the same cpu's, I now have ultimate and it works perfect

Hi, it is fixed now it wasn't nothing to do with the operating system, as i said i had 2 CPUs running before (had them running on home premium too, working fine) the problem was that i was on bios A08, and i needed to be in bios A01.

Thanks for the reply anyway, but as i mentioned in the above post i was already running windows unlimted hehe :p

Hai,

I have a Dell 690 using two Intel 5050 3ghz CPU's. The main board is 0F9394.
The BIOS is showing two CPU's I went back from A08 to A01 BIOS
I did instal windows 8.1 pro 64 bits. but the system is seeing 0nly 1 CPU (run cmd systeminfo)

System info shows:
MicrosoftWindows 8.1 6.3.9600 Build 9600
Multiprocessor free
etc
Prosessors 1 processor installed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the BIOS is showing two CPU's, I did remove the battery and main plu but that is not helping

How is this possible ? any advise

I know it was said above that dual cpu's will work with home and premium but to coin a phrase, "the lads chatting bobbins", I am going to assume your not running windows 8.1 enterprise or Pro, get an upgrade key from the web, it'll pop right up, just like mine did, I had tried bios a00 a07 and a08 - stuck with a08, switching cpu's to see if it was those, there was another thing that really helped me though with a lot of system drivers and that was these files

Intel_PRO_17.0_PROWinx64.exe
intel_rst_10.1.0.1008_whql.exe
gah103ww.exe
Intel_INF_allOS_9.3.0.1020_PV.exe

you can try them or there win 8 counterpart , really helped me with nagging driver requests, unless you have driver reviver or any quality driver program, again on the web, make sure you go to dell.com and hive it your code, it does not say win 7 or 8 but it does give you vista 64, get all device drivers from there, they all work with win7 and 8 systems.

Hope this helps you
