Hi all,

I have Asus maximus hero mobo with i7 4770k processor and i attempted to overclock.
I have seen intel burn is used to stress and hw monitor to monitor temps. So i got them and went to asus bios. I found an option to auto oc. You can select 4200,4400,4600 clock speed there.
I tried all they are all fine.(win booted no freeze on idle) So i tried to stress 4200 hz with the intel burn.

I have a stock cooler.

I got 100 celsius temps on all cores. I disabled the overclock. I was curious. I still got 100 Celsius on stock speed.

Then i tried my games. I find out my games all fine on 4200 Hz, no freezes smooth everything.
According to Hw monitor temps around 60-70 celsius under load, idle 30-40.
However, according to CpuZ my clock speed is not constant it is changing all the time, like 4200 then 3500 then 800 then 4200 again.

My Questions would be:

1.Is this Asus extreme tweaker utility is reliable? It is really adjust the clock speed (doing what is saying)It is reliable? If i would do manually I would have a different(better) result?

2. This clock speed jumping what i experiencing is throttling? This intended or clock speed should remain the same (if i put it on 4200 Hz it sould stay on it?)
Do i get the same performance all the time?

3. If i run on 4200 Hz (according to CPUz) games (guild wars 2 war thunder, skyrim in stereoscopic 3D)
and i get max 75 Celsius it is considered successful overclock? It is safe?
It is really on that speed?

Any help is appreciated, oveclock gods, help me I am confused....:S

Thanks for the quick answer, I read all the articles, but there is nothing about the jumping clock speed or maximus hero extreme tweaker utility.
I am not that experienced to do manual oc ing or i need to find an article when they say clearly you need to set this voltage to there wich is accessed from here and it will cause this.

This is more than likely the dynamic setting on you mobo. essentially it volts/undervolts depending on CPU requirements for what your running (pretty much a power saving feature)

read this article on the haswell overclocking. http://www.overclock.net/t/1411077/haswell-overclocking-thread-with-statistics

forget the maximus extreme tweaker. be in control of your overclock, knowledge is king and reading this link will enable self education which, in my eyes critical and will enable you to have a stable clock.

also get an aftermarket HSF!
