Hi, guys. I really would like to try to build a gaming PC and a friend of mine said that this site would be real helpful in learning how. I have absolutely no knowledge of how to build one or the components that go in to it, but I am willing to learn.

Right now, I'm looking to build a pc in the 1,000 to 800 dollar range, and I want to build it good enough to run it at the same rate as the PS4 an play upcoming games like The Witcher 3. Is that possible in my price range? Thanks, much info would be appreciated. :)

If it's solely for gaming, stick with an i5 "K" series cpu, the extra cores of the i7 are arbitrary.
As for everything else, the usual 8gb of ram, a decent mobo and put as much as you can into buying a high end gpu.

A ps4 is probably similar in power to a 7870 and with your budget you could probably get more, although depending if you already have a monitor, peripherals, os, hdd. Google and youtube are your best friends for learning how to put it together, and trust me it is not as hard as it looks

Alright thanks, I'll try to look up some youtube videos on how to build a pc and see where it takes me. Also thanks vmem for listing some of the components that are great for my price range, I might just do that since I don't really no much about what works together. And lol, I went to that video on youtube and all I saw were boobies with a half naked girl. Figures that a guy would like that one. :)

lol, that video is the stereotyped 'girl-gamer' putting together a PC... the semi-nudity aside, the information is actually correct.

if you want to see hairy men doing the same thing, Newegg has a lot of good youtube guides up

Thanks, everything is not as confusing as it first was. I'm ordering some of the parts tomorrow. I'm just so ready to start building and hope I don't mess anything up when I do. I might up my budget and get a higher gpu card but other than that, I plan to follow what you gave me. I don't have a monitor so that's another thing I have to add. :(

well a decent monitor can be had for a little over $100 now so at least it's not so bad. paying more can get you fancier settings such as an IPS screen or 120hz refresh rate.

anyway, happy building! it's a fun learning process (reminisces his first build)
