Any real benefit? 290x and 290 in crossfire.

I have two R9 290s. Lucked out and one of them was unlockable. I'm happy with that.

Curious though, in crossfire, won't my performance just limited to the lowest performer?

Basically I really didn't gain my self anything, did I?

I think you answered your own question. I would benchmark the heck out of the unlocked one to make sure it is stable, especially under load.
