I have an ASUS laptop. my hard drive crashed 2 months ago. Neither ASUS nor Windows were willing to send me my original product key. I bought the laptop legally with WIndows 8 installed.

I was appalled and took matters into my own hands. I installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it. Everything works fine except the internet. It does not detect any wi-fi and the device manager shows that the devices aren't working. However, it can't update them.

Have you installed the drivers for those devices? When you were in the device manager, are they listed as either Code 28 or Code 10? It can't update them because it's probably looking on the internet for drivers for the device that connects it to the internet in the first place. If so, check the model of your wireless in the device manager, get on a different PC, download the drivers, burn them to a CD, DVD, or flash drive, and install it from there.

By the way, your product key should be stored in the Asus BIOS, if it's anything the same as my own G75. Press Delete rapidly while the system turns on, and it will dump you off a blue screen; somewhere in there is the Windows 8 product key. They'd started storing them in the system BIOS instead of the sticker on the underside if the computer.

I can not get the details on the because they are not even being detected. The delete button did not show any product key :( that would have been great though
