Can't connect phone to computer, why?

So basically my SD card is full and I"m trying to get some stuff off of it so as I was plugging my phone in to the computer the menu pops up asking me if what I would like to do and I picked mass storage and right when I clicked it the menu went away and it's continuing to do this and I literally have no idea why. Someone help me please!

What kind of phone is it? What kind of computer are you trying to connect to? Is there an option on the phone to mount as a disk drive? Can you see the phone storage in My Computer? (I'm assuming you're running Windows, but I really have no clue; you're going to have to be a bit more specific, and then I'll see what I can do to help you out)
