Install old SSD on new motherboard will windows Install?

My motherboard Died when I tried to update the bios. I bought a new motherboard, new processor and video card to go with it. I have an old SSD that I want to use.


My old SSD has a windows 8 upgrade version on it. Should I just plug it in and reinstall windows with the upgrade disk? Will this work, or should I format the SSD first, but then will windows even install with all the hardware changes? Thank you!

After reading around the web it looks like a clean install on a formatted SSD with win 8 upgrade disk wont work. What if I don't format the old ssd with windows 8 on it, will my upgrade disc work then? Thank you
