I build a brand new computer and everything is detected fine except the graphics card. I have a Nvidia Geforce 660 graphics card and when I go into the device manager its not even listed, only the onboard graphics card is listed.

Have you installed the drivers? Visit the appropriate manufacturer's website (eg. Nvidia.com) to do so.

I've tried but apparently the card has to be detected to even install them cause it just said it couldn't find corresponding hardware

Are you connecting your video cable to the GPU, or the onboard graphics? Have you disabled onboard graphics in your BIOS?

As Essdub stated, make sure your plugged into your graphics card and not the on-board graphics. Lead the cable that comes directly from your monitor into the graphic cards dedicated HDMI/VGA port. This was a simple step I overlook on my first build.

the only cable that runs to the card is the power cable. and I haven't unabled my onboard 1 in bios cause I could not seem to find the setting for it. but my computer was running fine with everything for 2 days before it just stopped reading the NVidia card

if I have the monitor cable plugged into the NVidia card I get no signal. and drivers are up to date. I even tried taking the card out last night and making sure it was seated ok but it didn't help

You didn't mention that your system had previously been running on the Nvidia card prior to this problem surfacing; you're more likely to get a good solution if you provide as much information as possible.

So, was the Nvidia card operational for 2 days prior to this problem, or were you running on your onboard video?

It seems to me the solution to your problem rests solely in disabling onboard video, and running the appropriate video cable from your Nvidia GPU to your monitor.

If you provide your motherboard model number, BIOS version etc., we may be able to point you to the correct setting.

Select PCI-E as your video output instead of onboard video; keep in mind that "onboard" may not be the exact word used, but it will be fairly obvious once you find something that mentions video output.
