I had to reinstall Windows 7 Home on my HP Elitebook 8440p and it's asking for the driver for the Base System Device. I've looked at all the driver software for this notebook on HP's site and can't figure out which one it is. Looking for advice... thanks!

This device is usually the Ricoh 4in1 card reader.

Have a look in your 'C' drive to see if there is a driver folder there.

Sometimes the drivers are extracted but not installed.

If you have a drivers folder in 'C', then open it and see if there is a 4in1 driver there.

Alternatively, you could right-click on the missing device and choose 'Update driver'.

On the page that appears, choose to 'Browse computer'.

On the next page choose 'Let me pick from a list'.

Select 'SD Card' from the list and see if the correct driver shows up there. If it does, select it and press next to install it.

Any help?

thanks

Thanks! I installed the RICOH Media Driver from the HP drivers download site and that did the trick. Your message led me in the right direction (i.e., I didn't have this driver yet!).

Cheers!
