I am building my father a cheap basic computer. Here is my build so far

Now I love the price yet it is saying that I may have to update my BIOS. Is this a risk I should take? I have no clue how to do this and I'm hesitant on buying the parts now. Is it fine or should I look into another mobo?

It is easy to do. However note that if the BIOS that ships with the motherboard does not recognize the CPU it may not boot and would need a different CPU to flash it. You would be better off finding a board that does not need to be flashed just to use the CPU.

Hi, Updating the BIOS is very easy and is for supporting very new CPU models and adding extra options. You should however only do this if necessary as an interruption midway for instance, a power cut will leave the motherboard permanently useless! The software to update the BIOS will be supplied with the motherboard or from the manufacturers web-site.Hope this helps.
