GPU 3 Numbers instead of 4?

I know what a gpu spec means when it has 4 number such as 7750 which means it s 7th gen middle to high speed gpu. Does the 3 numbers mean the same thing? Like a 7700 would be 770?

So basically the 3 numbered GPU's are nvidia and the 4 digits are AMD? Because if so that makes a lot more sense.
 
Nvidia used to use 4 digits but after the 9000 series they went to three (200 series, then 400, 500, etc). That was a few years ago. Basically just look for the AMD (Radeon HD) or Nvidia (GeForce) branding in the GPU name. If you want comparisons between all GPUs look at benchmarks,
