Once I start my win7 pc or reboot it all internet apps and updates work fine. It use to be the case that if I locked my pc and came back to it, internet apps such as mozila, IE, Chrome, and any sort of internet update application utility would cease to function. I am able to ping externally and perform nslookups successfully. Has anyone had any experience with similar issues?

Go to Device Manager and select the Network adapter that you are using.
In Properties, select the Power Management tab and uncheck the 'Allow computer to turn off this device to save power'.
