If you're planning to overclock, I'd actually recommend the 8320. It's the same CPU, just with a lower stock clock speed. The 8350 is more for people who don't want mess with overclocking.

As for the motherboard, you'll need something with an AM3+ socket. (You can narrow down boards with this on Newegg). For brands, I'd stick with Asus or Gigabyte, as they make the best ones usually (They CAN make a bad board, always look at reviews). MSI and ASRock can also make a good board, though maybe not quite as good as Asus.

You'll want a board with a lot of VRM's (Voltage Regulation Module), as these are the biggest factor when overclocking.

For cooling the beast, you'll need an aftermarket cooler, such as the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ / Evo. They're very cheap, but have excellent cooling performance.

Also make sure to get a case with a lot of airflow, such as having mesh panels in the front for mounting fans. The Antec 300 case is a fine choice.

Get a decent powersupply from a trusted brand. Antec, Corsair, and Seasonic are usually the best ones to go with (But like motherboards, can make bad ones.)
If you don't plan on using two GPU's on the same board, a 500w powersupply would be optimal.

Hope that helps.

IMHO, these scenario work for people on budget (gaming only)

1. FX-8350 is pretty enough for all games these days
2. You do not need overclock, let do some math

Normal way (no overclock) = CPU + GPU + RAM
Overlock = CPU + more expensive cooler + more expansive motherboard + more expansive PSU ==> less money for GPU or SSD (which is far more important for smooth gaming experience)

To conclude

1. On budget, no need to overclock, save money for GPU or SSD
2. Still want to try, get some motherboard around $140 and you should be alright

For productivity (3ds MAX or something similar) ==> get Intel CPU

you will need an aftermarket cooler for OCing the 8350. I know a decent water cooler will cost over a $100 where as air is probably $50-70.

The mother board will need an AM3+ socket

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

8+2 power phase. Decent for overclocking the FX 8350.

You could try overclocking. It's really not that hard. Just do it little by little. And buy an aftermarket cooler. A cheap suggestion - Cooler Master Hyper 212
