DispDriverStopped.jpg

I had just replaced a GeForce GT520 video-card with a GeForce GTX 560.
I was experiencing this same problem before with the 520, reason why I felt compelled to upgrade. So much for that! :(

Is it a matter of finding a driver version that won't react the same way? Or is there something else what to look into or do?

Thank in advance guys :)

Thanks a bunch for your suggestion bystander.
My PS is a Cooler Master Extreme Plus 500 (30 amps).
But reasons why I'd like to think that would not be a problem are:
1. According to tech support agents both from EVGA & NewEgg.com this much watts & amps should be just fine.
2. I did test using a previous much smaller card (EVGA GT 520) which does not even require power from the PS to the card, and I was already having the same error message while using that card.
I must admit I didn't do a clean install when installing the drivers for the GeForce GTX 560. Some one else suggested I should, so I'll do that asap. Also I was suggested to try the EVGA Precision X application to lock the card to a certain high speed while using the app I need it for (Blender 3D).
I was able to use the 520 for a couple months w/out a problem. But then at some point this error started happening. I can't recall if I changed anything in the system. It might have been an update to the OS (Win8.1).

mousemonkey, Funny you mentioned Windows...
A pop-up shows a link to the following page: "Timeout Detection & Recovery of GPUs through WDDM "
The instructions advise to edit some keys in the Registry. Problem is it seems these instructions are specific to Vista. I did a Search on: "HKLM", "TdrDelay", and "REG_DWORD" but none of these were found. Additionally I looked for the directory path mentioned: "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDriv ers".
From what I understand Windows is not giving enough time to the GPU to do all the tasks involved and even though the card is still working on the task, Windows times out. So the idea is to modify this so that Windows allows more time than the default. If I only knew where these bloody keys are! :??:

Btw, I did try the EVGA Precision X app, but it didn't do the trick for me :(

Yes. But I can't find the keys I'm supposed to modify :(
Unfortunately the only instructions Windows points me to are for Vista.
I found a key called "Timeout, REG_DWORD", found here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/GraphicsDrivers/DCI/

The default value was 7. I increased to 500. The other file in this folder is called "(Default, REG_SZ)", default value is 0. Also increased it to 500. Every time I changed one thing I went to Blender and tried to render the scene I'm working on. But it's not working so far. I keep getting the same error.
Chances are these keys are not the right ones.

For some it worked just to increase the voltage with a tool like Precision X, just tried that w/out avail for me :(
I incresed to 1025, then clicked on the "K-Boost" button to lock it to that voltage.

I also removed drivers with DDU first to make a good clean-install. After that I first tried to install 314.22, but it didn't succeed due to lack of compatibility with Windows 8.1. So I went with 331.65 after. It did install, but I'm still getting the error.

My hope was to tackle the "Windows Timeout Detection" error by means of modifying the corresponding Registry keys, as advised by Windows 8 in a popup window. But unfortunately not only the advise Win8 points you to is outdated (for Vista only) but additionally tstalk from CGtalk advises not to get into this as it could make matters worse :(

This is how I came to resort to want to try Ubuntu. But this pc must be cursed, because now I'm having trouble just setting the Dual-boot with Win8.1 and Ubutu. I already got a separate thread going for that too ;)

If that doesn't work, then I guess my only alternative left will be buying a new PSU with more than 500w.

I just installed a brand new PSU 600w, and still the same problem
I'm still trying to test rendering the same Blender file from Ubuntu, but I keep experiencing one problem after another. At first it seemed lacking Persistent space in the 4Gb USB key was the reason I couldn't install Blender. So I got a 16Gb USB key today. Now the pc won't start up from either USB key! Go figure!

Finally found the solution:
Ubuntu 13.10!

Finally got it installed along with its respective Nvidia drivers. I no longer experience any errors while doing the rendering : )

I liked Ubuntu so much now I'm working on setting up a Dual Boot ; )

Thanks a million to everyone that contributed to this thread. Hopefully it'll help someone else too.
