Gpu usage spike

My r9 270x has had some spiking issues in some games. I only noticed this after I used zip ties to straighten out my gpu, for it was sagging. So far the games have been minecraft and Garry's mod, where the gpu usage would spike up and down from like 20% to 60%-90%. What should I do?

My build:
Motherboard: Msi fm2-a75ma-e35
CPU: Amd athlon x4 750k (3.4ghz currently, but it can go up to 4.0)
GPU: Gigabyte R9 270x
PSU: CX500M
Ram: 8Gb of Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
OS: Windows 7 64 bit

I feels like something is overheating while you are gaming. Does this usage spike problem happened after you zip ties to straighten the card ?? May be just may be when you straighten the card the heat sink on the GPU or perhaps VRM cooler lost its contact with card causing GPU or VRM overheating that results is throttling...

I will try to cut the zip ties again and see if it makes a difference. That sounds like it could be the problem.
And it is also spiking up and down from like 0% to 20% (highest ive seen so far is 37%) just while on the internet with 1 tab open!?

Ok. Zip ties are off, ive seen spikes when using Chrome, the gpu temp also spikes up with it. Still spikes in the hekkit modpack for minecraft, not with normal minecraft though. Garry's mod does the same thing, but it was on a certain map that it started to spike? Any suggestions?

yea, same for me bf4 is stable with no spikes mostly.

Thats it then. its probably due to how demanding the game is. How does Bf4 play? im going to get a 270x this christmas

Well, not so decent right now. It is capable, usually never goes below 60 on low at 1080p, but i think my cpu is not strong enough for it. I just looked at my gpu usage during bf4 and it was like only 35% max with a couple of drops (menu/end game). Either that, or the drivers need to be perfected +mantle will help a lot. I have the x4 750k @3.4ghz, similar to your cpu. I really need to learn how to OC lol.
