I just purchased the above M/B and a AM3 FX 4130 Processor, with 2x2 Gig of RAM (4 GIG) x 2 = 8 GIG. It Wont post, the monitor dosnt come on, I replaced moniter & Cables so not that. I have taken 3 sticks of RAM out, and alternated each stick, to see if one or more maybe faulty. Any help appreciated. I dont have access to another AM3 System and my old system is DDR2..

If memory serves me correct i dont think that motherboard supports 1600mhz ram unless you overclock it from the BIOS. I have never done memory overclocking before so i couldent help you with that, You can ask around the Memory section though, So if you want to learn something new try out overclocking the ram AFTER you asked for help (dont want to mess anything up)...

But it could also be a different problem, Maybe bad memory, or faulty cpu or motherboard. Never know.

Thanks ohyes247,

I asked when i bought this configuration if it was all compatible, and was told "should be" I cant overclock or anything ATM as it wont even post, just starts the CPU fan and thats it. Im going for a ram problem, but I also noticed the "heatsink"? under the processor that has GIGABYTE written on it wobbles, looks like something is missing on the m/b under one corner.

RAM is the easiest to work out if its faulty or not compatible, but i dont know anyone with DDR3 locally.

I can see a trip to sydney with tower in tow........ lol

Does the motherboard have the white plastic clips on the (Yes its called a Heatsink) on it or is it screwed in. Also to be more exact the one below the processor is the Northbridge heatsink. Anyway some motherboards have the plastic clips instead of the screws also they may be black not white im not sure. And if it is the clips its normal for it to wobble a little bit but if its moving more than just a little bit it isnt normal..

just starting the cpu fan.. Hmm... I bought an open box motherboard before (not saying you did) and when i finished putting it all together and popped the video card in and turned it on. Only the fans would turn on and the video card itself didnt even power up. So i put it into the 2nd slot and it powered on but no picture. I was pretty PO'ed all that work just to take it out then return it. But yeah no post could possibly be motherboard. If it was ram it should atleast post then if it gets into login screen crash. My cousin had incompatible ram once but it posted. just crashed at the windows logo.

Ahhhh, Ive had bad ram before thats caused a board not to post. I have a friend who has a newish tower so going up there tomorrow to swap ram over and see what happens, hopefully its a AM3 with DDR3 :)
Ive never noticed a heatsink move on any board before. NOW that I look at the heatsink it just has 2 plastic clips that are white at opposite corners, and nothing on the opposing corners.. I stripped the board back as in HDDs, burner etc, still no help. Im hoping its RAM and they will take it back now its opened. Luckily i have the lappy to fall back on :)
Thanks for your help & assistance, will let you know how it goes tomoz :)

Hi There, after 2 trips up to the mountains today, found the CPU was damaged, straighten 5 pins out on the last row, then later found out it appears a pin broke off the last row.. I considered the CPU to be at fault, but the pc wouldnt post with the cpu with the pin missing (which is very plausible) So after investigation found that the socket set is the same as my last 2, AMD2s, so I put the semperon processor in, which because its so bleedin SLOW, I hardly ever used, it fits ok, but that socket for the CPU is not an easy fit (with 3 CPUs so far) so maybe the board is suspect..

I t was exactly the same, would not post, but the board may not be compatible with a older and least powerfull CPU?!?!....

Anyways after discovering the cpu dosnt seem to be the problem, I then drove back up to my mates place again, and tried his DDR3 Ram in my board, and same thing, dosnt post. He has the different RAM of 1333 where my Corsair RAM is 1600.

So its a M/b or CPU. If this board supports the older AM2, then its a faulty M/B.

I guess i have to make the 90 min trek to the computer store and get them to check it out....

Thanks for your help! :)

Rob.

Hi Peoples.......

Well, something weird happened.
After nearly 2 days of mucking around, changing ram and CPU's as outlined above, i decided to take the old semperon out, and replace it with the AM3 4130, with my friends RAM...

Started it up, and VOILA!!! it worked!!!?!?!?!?!?

I powered down, swapped 1 stick of MY RAM in it, and again it booted up.

SO after countless booting and powering off, it all finally works!!

So, the Corsair 1600 RAM does work.

The CPU was NOT easy to get into the M/B socket, but after 3 CPUs etc, when I dropped the what we thought was a broken pin on the CPU, works a treat so far :)

Ive formatted the HDD, and put windoze on it with M/B drivers, all good, so I hope this helps someone out there :)

Cheers Rob.
PS special thanks to ohyes247 for his help :)

Thanks Bobshka for confirming this to me, I got that motherboard and bought those rams today, they are on way to my house. I was curious if that would not work. Just one question, are your ram 1.65v right?
