When I turned on my computer, it went to the AMI screen and I believe that the hard disk is dead. Is there a way to fix the hardrive? If not, is it possible to get back all the files in it because it is very important. So far I have failed to do it using Hiren's Boot Disk.

I cannot be sure that the hard disk is really dead but when I turened on my computer and it went to the AMI screen and it said:

AMIBIOS (C) 2008 American Megatrends, Inc.
BIOS Date: 01/25/10 11:43:05 Ver: 5UKT17AUS
CPU : Intel (R) Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU T6600 2.20GHz
Speed : 2.20 GHz

Press F1 to run Setup
Press F12 for BBS POPUP
Initializing USB Controllers . . Done.
4096MB OK
USB Device(s): 2 Keyboards, 1 Mouse, 1 Hub
Auto-Detecting AHCI PORT 0..IDE Hrd Disk
SATA Port0 ST9500325AS 0010
S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status BAD
Auto-Detecting USB Mass Storage Devices ..
00 USB mass storage devices found and configured.

AHCI Port0 Device Error
Press F1 to Resume

Hopefully the hard disk is not dead if not I will not be sure what to do next.

When I used the hard disk as the first HDD in another computer, nothing of it really appeared even after I boot the computer with Hiren's Boot Disk. Because of that, is it still possible to clone the files from the hard disk which is used as the second HDD? Can I also do this to a laptop where no other room are free for a second HDD?

So should I use the SATA Connector to connect the HDD to the computer which runs well? After that, can I just copy the files to the other computer or an external drive instead of backing the files up?

It sounds like the drive is bad "S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status BAD"

But may as well try it with an external USB case, hook it up a computer see if it reads it.
If the drive is at least seen in the system, but lists it as not formatted, you can try to use a recovery program like Recuva or PhotoRec to try to read something off the disk. If the system does not even recognize the disk to assign it a drive letter, you will need to send the drive off to a data recovery shop.

I bought a 2.5 SATA external case and placed the HDD in it. After I connected it to a laptop, the case lighted and the inside the HDD something was moving. But nothing appeared in the computer. Do you think it is a problem with the adapter or a problem with my computer or is the HDD dead?

Doubt it's the computer, but easy to find out, connect it to a different one.

If the drive is not seen from both internal and external, it's the drive not the case. You may be able to fix it by replacing the system board if it's not an issue with internal hardware. You'd need to find an exact match of the system board, make sure the numbers are the same, don't get a 12345B board if your drive is 12345B.1 for example. That wold be the cheapest and probably only self repair you can try. Aside from that, you'll have to bring the drive to a repair shop.

There is nothing you can fix yourself if you open the drive and the chances are almost 100% that you'll just make it worse. You are looking for the board revision which should be printed right on it. This is only a possible fix though by doing a board swap, but it's the only thing you can do yourself with reasonable success.
