So, i just bought bf4 and i only have 4gb of ram, when i play on ultra settings the ram usage is as high as 92%, which causes a bit of a lag. Im certain it cannot be my graphic card since it's a gtx 680! My options are limited in selecting ram. Since my cpu cooler is huge and it blocks the first ram slot, but a smaller ram could fit. right now i'm using G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) CL9-9-9-24) 1.5v. I cannot buy the same version since the ram heatsink is too high, Im looking for 2x4gb ram which will work with my current ram and fits under my Cooler. Brands don't matter as long as it works. Will G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-8GAB work with my current ram? or...

You might have to measure the available space to see if this low profile memory will fit.
Corsair vengeance low profile memory is another option.
You could instead replace your existing RAM with the new RAM rather than adding to it, and use the same slots.
8GB RAM should be plenty.

Well, if i can use 4 slots i would have 12gb and wouldnt that be better than 8? I know 8's plenty but i still like to use my old ones too... and whats a low profile ram?

Corsair and G.SKILL put these fancy heat spreaders on their high performance memory.
Low profile just means the cooler sticks up less than other models.

Not having enough RAM will make a computer slow.
Once you reach enough RAM though, adding more will not help performance at all.
With 8GB of RAM I would expect you to have at least 2GB available while running games.
Adding more than this, the RAM is unlikely to be used.

Mixing two pairs of compatible RAM should work.
Even if they are not exactly the same spec, the system should use the timing of the slower set for both pairs.

Mixing DRAM is not a good idea, the days of easily mixing DRAM went out the door with DDR2, they may or may not play together, and if you look through the forums, you'll find that especially with 1600 and up freqs chances are good they won't play (at least without timing and/or voltage adjustments and may not even play together at all....Best bet would be go with the Ares get them stable and then try with your old DRAM - and if you do have problems, give me a shout, DRAM is sort of a specialty of mine ;)
