New Computer Build Issue

I'm building a new computer and since I was having trouble installing Windows from disc (both 7 and XP), I swapped out an operating system disc from another computer. Here's the setup:

Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V
CPU: Intel Core i3-3250
RAM: Team Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 2400
Power Supply: Rosewill Capstone 750W

I currently have the above setup, along with a working operating system drive (running Windows XP) from my other computer. When I try to turn the unit on, I first see the BIOS splash screen, then it asks to start Windows normally (because it crashed last time), then after I start Windows normally it begins loading Windows for about 1-2 seconds before crashing and returning back to the BIOS splash screen (where it prompts me to enter setup). Any idea what could be causing this?

The Windows installation for the other computer will not work with the new hardware.
You need to install Windows on this computer.

or if you have the old system too, install the intel inf drivers on the old windows and then the old os should be able to boot into the new system. a windows reinstall is still your best option.

Thank you, this has been helpful! Unfortunately, however, we're not out of the woods yet.

I'm now using a Windows 7 disc, but when I'm about to install Windows, I am asked to use a CD, thumb drive, etc. with a driver for my CD/VD reader/burner in order to install the device driver. I've built a couple computers, and I've installed Windows a number of times, but I've never been asked to install a driver for a DVD reader during a Windows install, so I was a little confused. I'm using an ASUS DRW-24B1ST CD/DVD burner, so I went to the ASUS site and found the driver for this model, and copied them to a USB thumbdrive, but the files weren't recognized. Is there something else I'm missing?

Also, I made sure the driver files I downloaded were for Windows 7 64bit, which is the version of Windows I'm installing. Since that didn't work, I also tried Windows7 32bit, and I also tried putting the driver files on the hard drive rather than the USB thumbdrive, but nothing so far.

Strange that Windows does not have drivers for this DVD Burner.
The drivers you need for Windows installation are different to the normal Windows drivers.
You will see them for RAID controllers, but I've never seen install drivers for a DVD Writer.
You would be saving yourself a big hassle by using a DVD drive from another machine or borrowing one just to install Windows.
Once Windows is installed, you can plug the ASUS drive back in and download drivers if necessary.

in bios, certain of the sata ports can be set to operate differently from the others. plug the dvd to one of these and force it to ide mode. any windows install will be able to then see it correctly.

Just so anyone browsing needs to know, Yume Multiboot fixed ANY problems I had. I was able to easily create a bootable USB thumbdrive from a Windows 7 ISO file and it worked perfectly.
