No. socket are soldered on chip, they are not detachable from the motherboard.

it's not broken just unaligned pins which i have spent all day using a need and razor to straighten. The reason I ask is because I am getting BIOS 3 beep error and Im wandering if it has anything to do with slightly unaligned pins?

3 beeps is memory error. can be the ram itself, slots, cpu and like you think, the socket pins. the others can be checked for: try other ram, or ram in another pc, cpu replacement, and ram in various slots.

All parts were working until I reseated the CPU. I have tried all combinations. Basically, I just want to eliminate the possibility of say a half working cpu (due to bad pin alignment) having an effect on being able to read memory resulting in the 3 beeps. If somoneone can confirm that this is not possible then I will continue scratching my head and troublehotting.

it can be the pins if you see they are bent. it can be also the cpu itself.

If the CPU were completely dead I would I have assumed no beep at all. In any case, I'm going to assume the pins adn go check it out tomorrow at my local comp store.
