Hello, im building a new pc and have been waiting for the non ref 290's to release.

I would like to know what your thoughts are as to the exact release date,
and what brand would you recommend based on passed designs.

Also how do you think they will pro-form compere to the 780it and titan

Im personally looking ford to what sapphire will come up with,
as I almost went with two r9 280 toxic's (some would say the best 280's out there).
But one 290 already is over kill and I can always add cross-fire later.

And one more thing, is the 290x a rip off compered to the 290 non x?
Or would it be best to wait for the non ref r9 290x?

Solution
They will most likely be released by the end of next month at the latest if I had to guess. Sapphire is generally the favorite among lots of users. I also really like HIS and ASUS. From weakest to strongest it would obviously go 290-290x-780ti. Though you could OC a 290 to perform like a 290x. I left out the Titan because the performance doesn't justify the price tag. The 780ti is a much better choice at that point. If you have the money, go with the 780ti. But if you're on more of a budget, get just one 290 and OC it when the non-ref. models come out. The 780ti will still beat an OC 290 and a 290x, but I highly doubt you will be disappointed either way.

thank you for response guys(or girls)
Im thinking ill stick with the 290, However Ill have a look at the 780it, could get it cheap from USA maybe.
Was the hole flashing a 290 into a 290x just with a Cretan batch of cards, or could I still do it with a new non ref?

Would I be right in saying that the 290 can max out any game currently out?

One more thing, since I have a CPU expert here. Im going to buy a i7 4770k, since games may be optimised for the extra cores that the new conceals now use. Would I be right in my thinking?

Yes, a 290 without an OC can max out any game right now with rather good frame-rates on even the most intensive games. As far as 1080p gaming goes, it's a monster.

As for the 4770k, it is a great choice for modern gaming. Obviously that model is overclockable and is very popular among higher-level gamers. And yes you would be right in thinking that. While the 4770k is only technically a quad-core, the use of Hyper-threading adds an extra possible process to each core, virtually making it 8 cores. It's a beautiful thing.

As of yesterday this website is taking pre-orders for the Non-reference MSI 290x for $699! Marked up $100.

http://us.ncix.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031500&sku=92892&vpn=R9+290X+GAMING+4G&manufacture=MSI

This doesn't help with an exact date though. Early rumors were the 290's would come first, and still might. I heard maybe next week for sapphire 290. Personally I'm waiting for a 290, hopefully they're not to marked up too much because of these Damn miners. But if this price on the 290x holds I'd guess $499 for the 290.

Lol may I ask what litecoin, bitcoin and what mining is?

So would you guys suggest getting a GTX 780ti over the 290x and 290 if one had the cash?
Would it be reasonable to expect a non ref 290(non x) to OC up to a 780it?

MapRef brings up a solid point. Unless you are running above 1080p, multiple monitors, or play on 120hz screens, 780 will take everything you throw at it, then laugh at you....

But if you have the money, then go for the 780ti...god knows I would If I had the money. It's not like you need opinions on it...It's the best card available. lol

mining is annoying to explain, just google it. And It would take a very hefty (and probably unsafe) OC to get a 290 up to 780ti performance. The card generates enough heat as it is anyways.
