I'm trying to connect my second router which is a TPLINK TL-WR740N (router 2) to my main router (Cisco DPC3825) through WDS, but I am not getting a connection. I've added the router 2's MAC address under router 1's WDS settings and also connected it as a client under the router settings page as it supports WDS as well. I would have thought this would have been much easier as both of the routers support WDS, so I hadn't need to use DD-WRT firmware inorder to bridge the connections. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Connecting 2 routers through WDS

The largest issue is there really is no such thing as WDS. There are at best recommendations on how it should be implemented.
This generally means it is impossible to know if 2 routers from different manufactures can communicate...there are issues between different lines of routers even from the same manufacture.
Your best bet is to try to setup the option manually and see if you can make it work. If you are just trying to get client mode to work that is pretty standard the repeater part is what tends to be a pain.
Just remember if your goal is to use this device as a wireless repeater this is only the first symptom of why I only recommend people use repeaters as a last resort. You must resolve yourself to dealing with it being flaky and remember its better than no connection at all....which is the only case you should use a repeater.
