Hi, I have a giant problem. At least that's how it feels after a week of.....well trying almost everything (besides reinstalling windows - Vista x64 in my case). I can't get my speakers (or headphones - so the problem are not the speakers themselves) to work. Sound is enabled in BIOS and in Services.msc (Windows Audio). I tried removing the Realtek HD Audio Driver (even tried DriverSweeper just to be sure) and installing a new one......Nothing seems to work. "Playback devices" window looks like this : Realtek Digital Output - working, Speakers - Not Plugged In. Plus I can't set default device. And last but not least - the most mind-blowing thing about this - My FL Studio works (I hear everything), but only if I tell it to use Asio4all instead of Realtek. Please help me....I don't know what else to do.

More about : speakers work

Well Asio4all for starters is a low latency audio driver.
Your conflict is between the Realtek audio manager, and the way windows Vista or windows 7 likes to use direct audio.
Because you have both running Is the reason why HD audio does not work, and the Realtek sound manager they are conflicting.

You need to uninstall the Realtek audio manager.

Then you need to set the HD audio out in playback devices to default device.
And depending on the speaker setup. 2.1 or 5.1 set the speaker type in the advanced setting of the windows playback devices by right clicking on HD audio with the config speakers option.

Thank you for replying. So, Realtek audio manager is already gone. And as to setting the HD Audio as default in playback devices...... that's the thing.....the "set default" and "configure" buttons are not available, they're grey and non-clickable.

Have you gone into the bios of the board and set what outputs HD audio.
You should have an option to select the back ports of the board to HD audio.
And if you have front ports connected set them to AC97 ect.
Obviously the on board is enabled in the bios as you said.

If it fails give me the brand of motherboard being used, and it`s model number.
