Hi this is my first time build. I know this build is not an absolute beast but it is a huge upgrade from my laptop and am hoping to get the next 3 years out of this comp until I see necessary to build a new one.

it's for general gaming and general use, I don't expect every game to run on fully maxed settings but hope it will do me well for the next few years. Also with it being my first build I didn't want to spend a great amount of money, I will do that on my next build along with the experience gained from this on.

here is my set up. I am just looking for your thoughts and comments on this set up:

motherboard- Asus m5a97 r2.0
cpu- AMD fx 3600- 6core 3.5ghz
ram- corsair vengeance 2x4gb 1600
psu- corsair gaming series 700w
gpu- amd sapphire r9 270x
cd/dvd- cheap generic drive
hdd- 1tb 7200rpm cheap generic drive( with a view to add a ssd in near future.

stock cooling at the moment, case has 4 cheap 2pin molex fans that run at 100% all the time and are noisy as hell. "pin tested fans with psu" ( with a view to upgrade fans soonish)

I have bought everything apart from the hhd and graphics card. Still deciding on GPU but will pobs go with the one stated. Looking to order the last few parts next week on pay day, very exited to finally start putting it all together. :)

what are your views on all this then????
Thank you

that's a great point to be honest, 1tb would be too much. I keep most of my films and game iso's on a separate external hard drive and transfer as and when needed so 500gb of a good quality hdd would be better.. And im pretty sure the 270x is very slightly faster then the standard but will probably not notice difference.. Would you advise on going for the standard 270??

Thanks.

Yes, because you can always overclock the 270 to 270X speeds

good point but i'l probably spend the extra few £'s and go for the 270x.. Thank you for your input and I will be using your advise on the hdd and going for a good quality 500gb.

Yeah, but you can also overclock the 270x to a much higher clock speed. Probably a little more than a refernce GTX 760.

I would say that your gonna have a ballin AMD rig. Those parts are gonna go along just fine.
PS. The power supply is kinda overkill for this build but could come in handy for future GPU or CPU upgrades.

I was thinking that my self but I did have upgrades in mind when choosing the psu, maybe I could even use it in future builds so no need to buy another one. Also I read you should always choose a good quality psu and leave some headroom in wattage for reliability, upgrades and also possible overclocking.
And thanks for the compliment I cant wait to start actually building it.

No problem man, if you decide to overclock your cpu, be sure to get an aftermarket heat sink. AMD chips tend to run significantly hotter when overclocked. Enjoy building your pc!
