Have had this unit for one year. It is an all-in-one touch screen from Lenovo. The warranty expired 5 weeks ago. When I turned it on today you can hear Windows start up music however the display remains black the entire time the unit is booting up. I tried to get into safe mode but no luck. Can't even get into start up config mode.

I called Lenovo and spoke to a technician. After 3 minutes he told me I needed to replace the display. I asked him about other issues like the driver and Windows 8.1 upgrade and he was 100% sure it was the display. Replacing the display is a waste of time as I can get a new PC for the price of this repair. This is frustrating as the unit it basically one year old and is not useless.

Any advice? Should I trash it and never buy Lenovo again?

Mine did it as well, you have to find the right key, I think f11 and press it like crazy at first start, might take awhile to get it. Then you start to get options.. research and you will figure it out, I did

Had the same issue...
Here's wha I did:
1. Turn off the laptop - Press the Power button until the screen goes black & the power button light goes off
2. With the laptop turned off, hold down the Shift key
3. Press the Power button to turn on the laptop, then immediately start pressing F8 like crazy (all while holding down Shift)
4. Keep doing this until a message saying 'Please Wait' appears on the screen
5. Take your hands off the keyboard to allow Windows to load

For reference, my laptop's a P500 (also knows as the Z500), but I would imagine it would work in the same way on any Lenovo laptop

Good luck guys

B540 is an all-in-one, not a laptop, this is a common, well known issue with the B540 and other Lenovos. Just had mine diagnosed...replace hard drive, motherboard and SATA cables to the tune of $591.96 (I paid $850.00 brand new). Oh by the way, it's 6 months out of warranty. Solution: cut your losses, throw it away and never but Lenovo products again. . .i did. I loved this computer, took excellent care of it and there is no reason whatsoever that I should have had this massive failure. . .used it maybe 2 hours a day. Obvious to me that Lenovo knows it is a product defect. . .way too many ppl with the same problem. And yet, they don't stand behind their products. I will NEVER buy Lenovo again!!!!

I'm having the same issue as the original poster, but my PC is also connected to a tv for ocassional dual screen uses. It does display on the tv, but not the PC monitor. When checking the display properties on the tv, the tv is the only option for display (the PC monitor is not registering as an option). I have restarted a few times without luck.
