System not recognizing sd cards

My Win 7 pc has been fine for sd cards but now it is not able to recognize a card installed. The device manager says the readers are working properly and drivers are up to date. It also is not the several readers or cards i am using as they work on my other computer and they are the same ones used on this pc for the last year. I believe something has been switched off or corrupted. I tried system restore but am not sure of when the problem started.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Hi

Is your SD card a standard card (upto 2GB) or greater capacity 4, 8 or 16 GB

Is your card reader an old one limited to 2GB SD cards ?

does the sd card reader work with a 1GB or 2GB sd card

In desktop PC's it is easy to update or replace the card reader, much harder with laptops unless you want a external usb reader

You can get small usb readers supporting SD, mini SD & Micro SD cards fairly cheaply nowdays
