is $900 your total budget for this build or is it the amount that you will allocate to buying a cpu/mobo/gpu and be spending more for the rest of the necessary computer parts?

The 900 dollars is just for the CPU MOBO and GPU. And is there really much of a difference between i5 4670k FX 8350 and i7 4770k?

If you will be mainly gaming on the build, then an i5 (or AMD equivalent) will suit your needs. An i7 does not show much (if any) improvement in current gaming needs, the i7 is mainly beneficial in non-gaming applications such as video editting and the like. If you can afford it, I'd go the i7 route, then i5, then AMD. Really depends on your current needs, future uses and your budget.

But since you are going gaming mode, I'd recommend the i54670K with a good quality Z87 mobo using an aftermarket CPU cooler for overclocking. i5's cost less than i7's, leaving you more money for a better performing GPU.

Also, unless there is a specific need/reason for getting a high-end motherboard (more than $200), the money saved can also go towards a better GPU.

The i5's slightly outperform the FX8350 in most situations, but the FX8350 will come close (and occasionally beat) an i5's performance.
