PSU vs. GPU

Okay, as christmas is just around the corner I have decided to get a R9 280X (upgrade from GTX 550 ti) though my PSU is a thermaltake litepower 500W, I have been wondering if the PSU can run the GPU?

P.S. I cant afford a new PSU aswell the GPU!!

The R9 270X is a much safer option :)

That would push the PSU a lot, it's too risky, I'd say get a new PSU or another GPU, preferably Nvidia, because they consume less energy
