Hello, I really want to play a really fun zombie game. Whether it's PC or console. Please don't name the obvious... Left 4 Dead... Everyone has played it and yes it's awesome but I want something different. I really want to try Nether despite it having demon like creatures instead of zombies, it looks fun! So what are some fun zombie games you guys have played?

dayz standalone is as it surggests a stand alone game using the same engine that arma 3 is made in and will possibly be the best apocolyse survival games created in the last 2 decades but it has a release date of at least Q3/4 2014 meaning your looking at between august and december before it comes out. right now i would personnaly recommend killing floor although it is slightly linear after a while. other than that i have heard that a game called nether is good although i have played it myself and im not 100% sure whether it involves zombies. but you could always try dead rising for the pc and console if slaying zombies by the hundreds is your style.

Is DayZ Standalone just DayZ but you don't need any prerequisite Arma games to play it? and when is it supposed to come out?

Yeah, I can't wait for DayZ Standalone it sounds like it's gonna be amazing. As for nether, it is similar to DayZ but more of an arcade version where as DayZ is a simulation. You fight creatures called the "nether" and it looks very interesting and fun, it is in alpha right now and already looks very fun so as time goes on it should become very fun.

to be completely honest the survival genre hit huge over the last year or so and has made more money in the last year than the action, shooter and rts genre have made combined but its slowly starting to die out along with alot of aaa series, you will however see the extremely popular survival games carry on but its just funny when developers fail to grasp the concept of what a survival game is and the future therefore of gaming is kind of set now.
BRING ON THE INDIES AND ALPHA's

By saying "die out" do you mean they're getting old? Because IMO COD Ghosts is the biggest fail in the franchise and yes I don't understand why AAA developers can't grasp that people love survivor games so I guess they can just leave it to the indie makers to make all the money because one good AAA zombie game every 2 years isn't going to cut it. I did buy Nether tonight and it is very interesting. It gives you a sense of loneliness and is very creepy when you here a loud roar letting you know the Nether have spotted you and you will be dead if you don't have the weaponry to defend yourself because you can't outrun them. It is sad when you walk up on another play going through their inventory and you kill them and see all the hard work and time they spent on that character and now they have to start over. The game does have quite a few bugs but I am pretty sure it's in alpha so I forgive it because it is by no means unplayable and they release an update every 2 days so once it's finished it will probably raise in price so I recommend buying it now, it is worth it. It is a bit graphic intense so make sure you have a nice CPU and GPU before getting it.

The problem is that few zombie games feel as active, fast paced as left 4 dead while still having good gameplay.
If you look at Dead Island for example, It feels like you are a 200 KG human beeing with 0 flexbility and you eyesight is 3/20.
Thats why left 4 dead is usually talked about, becouse it does a lot of things well.

Yeah, I didn't say that as an insult to L4D, I love the game I just think it is an obvious winner so there isn't any point for someone to suggest it to me.

The Dayz Standalone ALPHA came out today on steam. It's $30, but please look up videos and read reviews before you consider buying it. It's an alpha and will of course have bugs, some may be game breaking, but it's for sure an improvement over the mod in many areas. Once it gets closer to release the price will probably go up.

Rust is another Zombie survival game on steam, in Alpha as well. This one focuses more on building a base than DayZ does, think of it like a mix of Minecraft and DayZ. It's $20 right now and I may pick it up, looks pretty fun.

I too am looking forward to Nether, but am going to wait for more information and advances in the game before dropping any money on it.

Good luck in deciding!

Yeah I've already heard of tons of game ruining bugs but I don't blame it any because they make it pretty clear it will have bugs but I did buy Nether and it's also in alpha but I haven't found any bad bugs, maybe an occasional transparent item and glitchy while on piles of rubble or laying down but they are listening and fixing a lot and it will be awesome upon full release. I'd buy it now. When the game is done they will be able to charge more for it so if you buy now you get it cheaper and you still have it when it's done!

I did not understand it as an insult to L4D. What i meant is that after playing L4D, your expectations will usually be higher than what other games can deliver (Im guessing there will be 1.. maybe 2 exceptions) and overall dissapointing.

Oh yeah probably, but I do enjoy other zombie games, just not slow paced indie ones like Contagion. But then again everything is slow paced after you play L4D
