Firstly a bit about me, I'm 18 and I've been debating building a gaming pc for about a year now and I've finally decided to. For the last 5 years I've been using the machine I'm posting this with, Windows Vista, 1.6ghz Processor and 2GB ram and I'm sick of it. I've been researching different components a lot recently and cant decide if I want to go overkill with this, my budget can stretch to about £1500 but I've read you can build a PC for under £1000 that will run anything on Ultra. I want to play all games on ultra, do some HD video editing and use photoshop, basically everything I've not been able to do on this machine I'm using right now :( ( I lag on Age of empires 2..)

Here is the first build I've made It's just under £1500 -

CPU Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core £257.15
CPU Cooler Zalman CNPS9700 LED Ball Bearing £30.19
Motherboard MSI Z87-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 £108.76
Memory Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 £122.59
Storage Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" SSD £121.90
Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM £82.79
Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB £566.94
Case NZXT Phantom 530 White ATX Full Tower £97.84
Power Supply Corsair 650W ATX12V / EPS12V £87.18

Here is a build I've made for under £900 -

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/DCH95/saved/20n5

CPU Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core £149.99
CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing £23.98
Motherboard MSI Z87-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 £108.76
Memory G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 £62.99
Storage Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM £44.35
Video Card Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 2GB £340.99
Case Cooler Master CM 690 II (Black) ATX Mid Tower £78.83
Power Supply XFX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V £67.45
Optical Drive Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer £13.18

I know that there is a HUGE difference between spending £1000 and £1500 on a computer but I want this to last at least a few years without needing to completely overhaul the components, any advice/build ideas would be much appreciated. I'm a noob to all this so if I've got anything wrong then I am sorry, thanks for reading and thanks for helping! :)

I've been researching alot for my build too. I got a lot of comments saying that MSI is not a good board for the z87. Try changing it to an Asus/Gigabyte mobo at the same range. Like Gigabyte Ud3h or Asus Maximus hero VI. I think the 3 tb is kinda overkill for the i7 build.

The second build is really good, but change the gpu to this: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-gtx770dc2oc2gd5
It's cheaper and stronger. Also, you might want to consider a SSD to hold the OS and your most played games: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz7te120bw

And remember, there is a huge price difference between the 1st and 2nd one, but the 2nd one can max out any game at 1080p. It may not last as long as the GTX 780 ti, but in a couple of years when the 2nd build starts to get a bit out-dated, you can use the saved money from getting the 2nd build and use it to upgrade. So in the long run, the 2nd build may cost as much as the 1st one but it will have better parts.
