Hi everyone,

I am hoping this great community can help me, I have scoured the forums but as I don't want to cause unnecessary and naive damage I thought I'd ask here.

I have chosen to upgrade my video card from a 9800GTX+ to a 560Ti and currently waiting on an extra connector to install it. My query is that my Intel 2 Q6600 Quad runs at 2.4GHz and I have read that to get the most out of the 560Ti I may have to overclock upwards to 3.0GHz(?).

I have never overclocked a computer and would love some precautionary help as I don't know how far to take the overclocking before drastically reducing the lifespan of the computer, and how much I can even overclock by. Replacing any components is not much of an option, due to finances (christmas) so I'd appreciate any help.

I am unsure what my PSU Watt precisely is, but if necessary I can find it out. I will post some specification below:

I've left out some dxdiag information as I didn't think it was necessary but happy to provide.

Thank you very much for your time!

Hi there cin19, I don't believe it is (by looking at Product ID and no OEM). By model, do you mean where I got it from and the manufacturer? I purchased it from a company called Zoostorm however I can't find the model online. Is there a dialog box or screenshot that I could provide that would help?

I'm not sure if this also helps, from cpuZ I find my motherboard is Foxconn G31MX and the BIOS is Phoenix.

Hi cin,

I looked at the two guides and unfortunately I had a lot of trouble trying to OC so in the end I "tried" to go back to normal. At that point the fan push pins weren't stable enough and I had to install the new Arctic Freezer 13 which was also installed with the Corsair CX500 I needed.

However, and I don't know if it's the psu (doubt it) or the fan (severely doubt it) but my computer screen freezes after a random 2-10minute range. I can sit in the BIOS for as long as I want which makes me think it's not the psu. Part of me thinks it's the Ram or Dram because the last time I looked at the settings it had two options of 5XX and 8XX and now it is saying 8XX (886?) and 1XXX. I'm wondering if the Dram has somehow gone up, maybe because of new psu?

In the instances I've got adequate time CPUz tells me my ratio is 3:5 and DRAM is 444.4.

I'm really lost as I've tried resetting bios with CMOS which doesn't fix it.

The RAM spec is two components of 2GB Buffalo Select DDR2 800 PC2-6400 555.

Any help would be really appreciated. Also should I post this somewhere else now or?

It turns out, that I had the JP1 over-memory frequency jumper on the wrong 2 pins (1-2 instead of 2-3) and this was why I had weird DRAM options. 1-2 pins offered 800,1066 and 2-3 has 533, 667 and 800 (my ddr2-800-PC26400's limit). I had done so as I was not careful enough to notice that the pin I was looking for, CMOS reset, was actually the JP1.

I have resolved, and can now even OC to 3GHz CPU on 800Mhz RAM (seems to create a 4:5 ratio though on CPUz) however finally getting onto installing my 560Ti I get a no signal and frequent 100% fan problems. I have discussed this in a separate thread but thank you for the help here.
