Hi,

I opened up my computer a few days ago to change out my wireless card and when I closed everything back up I found that no sound was coming out of my computer anymore. I have tried both the front and back ports to no avail.

I am certain it's not a problem with the speakers because I have tried multiple different pairs. I have also tried reinstalling the Realtek HD Audio drivers multiple times with no success. When I turn my computer on I hear a few faint 'thud' noises come from my speakers and that's it.

Is it possible that something in my motherboard failed? I feel like I have tried everything without any luck.

That sounds weird, tried using HDMI for output? If HDMI worked, i'm sure it's the problem of the ports...

Unfortunately my monitor doesn't have an HDMI input and I don't own an HDMI to DVI converter so I can't test that. It seems unlikely to me that both my front audio port and my back audio port would fail at the same time though.

Okay, I just used a friends TV to test the HDMI outputs. When I am using the motherboards HDMI output it doesn't even show HDMI as an option to play sound through. However, when I plugged the HDMI cable into my graphics card I could hear sound! Does this mean my onboard audio is fried? Would a soundcard help with this?
