7950 PRICE jump need a new gpu

Hello fellow Tom's Hardware members,
so last week the 7950 was $189 now it's between $300-500 and I have no idea why. and whats the deal with the new 200 series are they any good ?

They are alright, the only problem is the 270x is about a 7870 and a 280x is is about a 7970. So there really is no AMD replacement to the 7950. The equivalent would be the 760.

I know it's almost impossible to guess but do you think the time of year is effecting the price of the 7950 and could it possible go down after christmas (run on sentences are cool

Its not really the time of the year, for some reason coin-mining has really pushed AMD prices through the roof as they are "better" to use. So nobody knows when they will go down, and 7950s are discontinued so the price will likely not drop much.

If you looking for a card for the same $189, get the HD 7870 or R9 270X. They are practically the same.
