Dear forum users,

I am planning to purchase a new GPU. I am still not 100% sure which one though. My number one is the Club3D AMD Radeon HD 7750, because it fits my budget and I think it fits my pc also. My question is if I can replace my Geforce GT8500 for the HD 7750, without making changes to my PSU. Someone told me it would work, but I want to be sure. I own a HP Pavilion a6370.nl and only added two 1GB RAM Memory. The specs are:

- M2N68-LA (Narra3) Motherboard
- AMD Phenom X4 9500 Quad Core CPU
- 3GB RAM
- 750GB Seagate HD
- Delta 300W +12/19A PSU

My main concern is if the power supply will be sufficient, since the specifications for the AMD Radeon HD 7750 say 450W minimum. But others have said it will be fine with my current PSU and the Radeon GPU only uses 30 watts more than the Geforce GPU of what I have heard.

Please tell me what you think!

Thank you very much in advance,

Mark.

It might only use 30w more but it's the amps that matter , the reason a 450w is recommended is because it will output a certain amount of amps most likely more then your current 300w PSU.

There are those that do get a video card to run on less then the recommended power supply and the 7750 is not a power hungry card. I think that you would be taking a chance on it working. What are your options of getting a bigger power supply ?

The case of the HP Pavillion is a mid sized ATX so getting a larger PSU should not be an issue unless the budget does not allow for that purchase.

I doubt it. If it is as old as the rest of the machine it has probably lost a good bit of umph. While the 7750 could easily be powered by a good 300w PSU, I doubt that one will.
Just for reference my entire build+monitor, speakers etc only pulls 260w when maxed with IBT and valley. i7 870, 8GB ram and an HD 7770.

Thank you a lot for your answers. My budget is 100 euro's (137 USD i think) and the Club3D is about 85 euro's. So I wouldn't have a lot of money left for a new PSU.. Is another GPU an option? I mean a GPU i can just put in my PCIE_X16 slot, without 6 pins power supply and without buying a new PSU? For instance is it possible with the GT 630 or 640 by Geforce? Would these cards have a bigger chance of working? If you have any other alternatives or need any other info, please ask or tell me!

My deadline is tomorrow, so I hope I can get some feedback on my last post by then! Excuse me if this bump isn't allowed.

So if you look at my situation and specs, the Geforce GT 640 would be the best option for me without replacing power supply? Or are there any better alternatives to fit my budget without or with changing power supply (135 USD budget)

Yes if you are willing to change the power supply then that allows you to get a better video card. I would look around for sales or rebates to try and get the highest power supply for the price you want to spend. This time of year and just after the holidays are good times for sales and rebates. You may even find a 500w power supply for the cost of a lower wattage one.

I've picked this graphic card: MSI R7750-PMD1GD5/OC V2
And this power supply: Corsair VS350

Is that a good choice?

Thanks for all the answers,

Mark.

You have only increased by 50w is that the best that you can do ? The HD 7750 requires a 450w ?

A 7750 does not "require" 450 watts by any sense of the word (did they really increase it from 400 to 450??)
300 watts is about the minimum. 19 amps would probably do it but I would upgrade when possible

Just going by the specifications listed for that card and I guess it depends on what card your looking at, a Power Color one states 400w but this XFX one states 450w.

Naturally the manufacturer is covering their butt by suggesting a high PSU but there's nothing wrong with getting a higher PSU.
