Hey guys, just wanted to ask you if anyone could recommend me a good PSU for my build. I'm currently using a CX 600 but I want to upgrade it. What I have is:
MSI Twin Frozr 7950
Intel i5 3350p
1tb of storage
8gb of ram

ah, ok.

so, without OCing you're probably ok up to 300-350W, so with OCing you might go as high as 450W. i've had great luck with Antec thus far, so i'd be ok to recommend any of their stuff. you might like the HCG (high current gamer) line which might set you back $100 or so but is likely overkill unless you plan on adding a second graphics card down the road. is there a price limit in mind, or features that are very important (like modular)? what are you future plans for this machine? more drives, more graphics, extensive water cooling pumps?

OCZ filed for bankruptcy and as far as i know Toshiba is buying their stuff. not sure how that would affect your rebates and warrant and comfort with an OCZ product.

in that case (your budget), i'd go no cheaper / lower-end than an Antec VP450, and this EVGA looks quite good and i guess it should since i think they're trying to enter into this product arena (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438012). FSP evidently makes some good stuff too, but i've had no exposure to them.

you know, considering you don't have a lot of "stuff" in the case, i'd look strongly at a modular one - helps eliminate a bunch of cables that you won't be using anyways.

and - don't need to go crazy with power ratings. 550W or so should be enough and if a lower power rating helps you get a modular unit within your budget, that might be the more sensible solution.

case in point - i have an Antec TP3-650 in my case, and there's a LOT of cables i'm not using that i have to tie off and hide and work around. i've nearly gotten to the point of thinking about cutting some of them off! (properly, cleanly, and sealing the cut ends to prevent shorts)

in my own case, the mess of unused cables was SO annoying that i went out and bought a CX500M.

I just want the TX because of the rebate, 69 dollars for a 750 is a good deal. I've also had 3 PSU from Corsair and I really love their RMA process. I just go to their warehouse which is 20 minutes away from my house. Is the TX 750 made by Seasonic, I have a cx 600 and I know its made by CW. Plus, the TX is only 10$ more than the XFX.

ya, i agree that the pricing on that TX is great - if you need that much power. i guess what i'm saying is - do you want more power capacity that you might never use, or modular cables to keep the inside of the case as uncluttered as possible?

maybe there's a lower-power corsair modular in a similar price range? or if the cables are a non-issue, then grab that TX!

Is the size really big? I have a Corsair R200 case. Also, when I tried to go buy the product, it takes me directly to payment and billing skipping the shipping.billing information. I have bought a product from tiger direct before. I want to enter a coupon code in the shipping portion but since it's skipping that I can't see to do it..

the physical size (dimensions) should be totally ok (standard ATX size, and you'd have room in that case even if the power supply is a bit longer), it's just more power than you'll likely need.

but hey, that's just me - i like things neat and clean and efficient! you might prefer a bit more "meat" and visual impact.

FSP would likely be a CM (contract manufacturer), and probably a decent / good one. i think eVGA is trying to expand their product offering and since they have a wicked reputation in graphics cards, they're unlikely to pick a cheap-ass partner to get them started in the power supply side of the business.

just a guess, though. but based on eVGA's reputation, if i was shopping for a PSU then i'd be ok with this offering.
