Hey guys,

Having issues with my Samsung 840 EVO. I'm trying to install Windows 8 OS on it. It's being detected in the BIOS, but it's not appearing in disk management or in the list of disks in the command prompt. My motherboard is ASUS Sabertooth Z87.

I've checked in my BIOS to make sure it's set to AHCI. I've also double checked to make sure it's properly connected.

Can someone please help? Thanks!

You need a bootable media (DVD/USB) to install OS. Disk Management has nothing to do with installation. You can create partitions under Disk Management but not install OS.

I do have a Windows 8 DVD to install the OS. I've tried to install the OS using that DVD but it's not appearing in the command prompt or when asked which disk to install it to. It says there is no fixed disks to show. It still, however, shows up in the BIOS.

Are you sure the media is Bootable ? Are you getting the message "Press any key to boot from cd/dvd" upon restarting the PC ?

which port do you have the SSD connected to? the ASmedia or Intel?

Did you check in the Bios, under Advanced tab / Sata Configuration, that the port its connected to is enabled?

I am getting that message the message "Press any key...". The installation does continue on until I need to select a drive to do a clean install on. The SDD doesn't show up there.

I've actually tried both ports. Neither of which work. The port is enabled and set to AHCI.

Try to update the BIOS if you haven't done it yet.

Hi Michi -

For what it's worth, I have the same motherboard and SSD and I can't install any OS cleanly on the drive. I tried to install Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu and they don't recognize the drive, yet the drive is visible in the BIOS, I'm using AHCI, and before wiping it using the Samsung Secure Erase, I was able to use the drive.

Not sure if there's something else that needs tweaking in the BIOS. Hopefully we can get more looks at this thread for some other options.
