Hi!

I have three 7970 GPUs (Asus, Sapphire and Powercolor)
They all worked just a while ago, but when I flashed a different GPU BIOS on them,
the PSU didn't even start with the Powercolor gpu connected it. It doesn't work even if the gpu isn't connected to the motherboard but its only connected with 8 and 6 pin cables to the PSU.
But the GPU's fans work if I connect it to the motherboard without providing power supply from the PSU.

I have two 750W PSU's - one powers the motherboard and two gpus and the other one gpu and the hard drive. Each of the PSUs doesn't work if i connect the Powercolor gpu to it.

Another problem also occured, when I installed drivers for the other two GPU's, which work just fine, Windows doesn't boot and has to run the recovery mode and delete the drivers and than it installs them again and the same story happens again...

What did I do wrong? Did I waste my Powercolor gpu, or is there a solution to this problem?

Every suggestion would be helpful,
thanks to everyone

Sound like something did went wrong. I would try unplugging all of your GPU and see if your motherboard even runs see if it powered it up. When you installing driver always installed them with one card or have the other two in CF unplugged from computer. Then when you put the 2nd card in then you go to the device manager and then update your hardware from the driver that been already installed on the computer and then do the same the for 3rd card. And for flashing BIOS make sure they are all the same BIOS that came with the card and flash them one by one with on card in the system don't flash them with three card are in the system. You can pick up newest best BIOS and used them on each card. And all the same clock speed and memory speed. Always back up your real bios that came with the card before doing flashing might have to back it up. Just have to play with it and find out.

Thanks for your reply. Yes motherboard seems OK. I was very stupid not to backup the factory gpu bios, before I've flashed a new one. I gave up on the Powercolor gpu for now, but I would really like to save the other two.
The only bios I could find for Asus 7970 Matrix (non-Platinum) is this:
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/130348/asus-hd7970-3072-120813-4.html
My Sapphire 7970 GPU has a dark PCB so I assume this should be the right BIOS for it:
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/131192/sapphire-hd7970-3072-120926-1.html

I've flashed these two but the Asus shows error code 43 in Windows hardware manager.
But drivers seem to act strangely even with the Sapphire GPU...
I'm now reinstalling Windows and will try to instal drivers only with one GPU connected as you proposed.
Will upgrade as soon as I finish.

Well, even when I reinstall Windows and install drivers only with one GPU plugged into the motherboard, there's something wrong.
This code 43, keeps showing in the Device Manager and the AMD software shows the driver isn't working properly. (I've installed Catalyst 13.9.)
And in the GPU-Z software, the strangest thing is that it says both of my GPUs have like 4 or 6TB of GPU RAM.
I'm so frustrated by this.... Is it may be motherboard after all, or did I waste all of my hardware :(
Please help, thanks

Ok buddie I try to help you as much as I can. I think this BIOS for the ASUS http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/128801/asus-hd7970-3072-120813-2.html give it a try we can always overclock this later. Right now we need to find a working BIOS for your card.

I need to know what model is your Sapphire is you can look on the back of the card for the model number and we can find the right BIOS for it.

And plus your Powercolor too.

After we find the right BIOS and a working card and then we can get a proper driver to get your computer going again.

Well for this Asus BIOS it sais it is for Asus Matrix Platinum, but mine is just Asus Matrix. Does it matter? (ser. no.: D6XXCM021666)

This is my Sapphire GPU:http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/product_index.aspx?pid=1515&lid=1

Ok now I've managed to set the right BIOS for Asus (http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/128801/asus-hd7970-3072-120813-2.html) and Sapphire (http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/119153/sapphire-hd7970-3072-120207-2.html) GPU.
Although my Sapphire gpu has dark PCB, I've downloaded this BIOS because of the system id.
Now they both work as they did before :)
For further notice, could you please tell me what is the best way to overclock these gpus, with the smallest amount of risk involved?

I didn't manage to get the Powercolor GPU running, because every PSU that I charge it with, doesn't seem to even start supplying. I really have no clue what is going on here. It works when I plug in the 6pin cable, but not if I add the 8pin cable.

Awesome man. Yeah np on the help. I can understand how frustrating it can get.

From what I understand in crossfire is that when they do CF it will just both operate at the slower cards speed.
So what this mean is that when your most high clocking card will go down to the lower speed on the slowest 7970 card.

Are your video card are on water cools?

Well here the modded BIOS give it a try this one for the Sapphire this for mid overclock but stable to CF and game on it.

This one is for Asus
http://www.mediafire.com/download/oa76e38qlawpgha/Asus.HD7970.3072.120813_5.rom

I don't know your model of your Powercolor

But for your Powercolor 7970 what you need to do is unplug the Asus and the Sapphire and just try your Powercolor alone see if it is a working card.
IF this powercolor not working then you need to send this card back get a RMA and returned that card back and get you another one. Sound like to me that this card blew a fuse or a DOA.

But if you want to know more about modding your BIOS I would suggest read both of this forum

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/vbe7-vbios-editor-for-radeon-hd-7000-series-cards.189089/
http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/radeon-hd77xx-78xx-79xx-bios-editor.183423/

Be extra careful never really overlock your video card so crazy you can brick or kill or blow up your video card and it will be dead in the water.

Always test your overclock by the program first and test all kind of games and benches and stress program to insure knowing that the card able to do it job before flashing a BIOS for a permeability overclocked BIOS set for that card.

As for driver. Make sure all the rest of the video card are unplug as unhooked. Start with Asus 7970 frist card make this your primary card #1
Uninstall all the driver from AMD and download CCleaner and clean any temp folder and some cache and you can clean your temp folder from the C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Temp. The Appdata folder is hidden you have to make your computer to show all hidden folders. And then go download Driver Sweeper clean all the left over driver from AMD in your windows. Restart your computer. Then go download the New AMD catalyst driver. Installed that driver and when it done restart your computer. If you have a Chipset AMD motherboard then download that and installed that and restart your computer. If you have a PCIe 3.0 there is a enable the 3.0 for your windows at this website.
http://www.trickmasterpc.com/force-enable-gen3-pcie-3.html

Add the #2 card Sapphire 7970 to installed the driver. Go to the device manger and right click on the yellow icon for the video card. Click Update driver then Browse and find the driver on your C drive or you can click on let me pick driver from a list. If it not there then click on the check mark on show compatible hardware then find AMD and find your driver from there.

Hope this help. And good luck
