I'm planning an APU build with an A10-6800K as an xmas present. I want to use an mATX motherboard, but some of the reading I've done of old forum topics seems to mention that with certain motherboards, you need to update the BIOS with a Trinity APU before Richland ones will work.

Is this true for only certain chipsets? I'd really just like to get a mATX motherboard and have it work with an A10-6800K out of the box.

Just as a note, the motherboard I was thinking about getting before I put everything on hold to learn more is:

I've built a gaming rig before, but I'm very new to AMD parts, so sorry for the ignorance >_<

You need to get a fm2+ motherboard!!! That way you can upgrade to Kaveri next year. That is exactly what I did.

Well, the PC build is just meant to be an Xmas present to somebody, so I'm not planning on upgrading it so soon.

So is it really an issue where the FM2 socket boards need to be flashed, but the FM2+ boards are all fine with Richland?
