I got a question about hooking up the case fans in a CM storm trooper case with a asus maximus hero vi motherboard, also I have the corsair hx 750 psu.

so this is a new build and the first time I have built a pc from the ground up. I'm not sure were I should hook the fans up at, I know I can just put them on the mobo or I think the psu. I'm just not sure one which I should do or which way is the best. any help would be greatly appreciated

I have the same mobo and same series psu. The fans plug directly onto the mobo headers. the cpu fan goes on the top edge where it says 'CPU FAN'
The others are labled 'CHA_FAN#' where # is the fan channel number. the first is on bottom edge. 2nd on the side opposite the rear panal. and 3rd in the middle between cpu and the pci slot. Any port will work. Just make sure the cpu fan is on the cpu fan header

for 2nd cpu fan use the 'CPU_OPT' header. if you have 3 pin fans they go on the 3 pins with the plastic next to them. Enjoy the wonderful motherboard! :)

I have already hook the cpu fan up in the cpu fan place. ^_^ that was a easy one ^_^

the case I have has four fans, one is just 3 pins, one is a 3-pin with an attachment goes inside of bigger four pin (this four pin i don’t know what it is called, it looks like the power cable to my old harddrives) than there is two more fans that are 3 pin that goes into some 2 pin wire that get routed back up to the case fan controller (I think). with this huge four pin I do have some adaptors the will hook into these and go into the smaller four pin fan. which I think I can just plug in the mobo some where.

I'm just confused with all these extra wires and adaptors... -_- and I cant seem to find it in the manual or online how I should hook them up. I can take picture if need

yes so far I love this motherboard and I sure it is even better when I get it running ^_^

thanks for you help and time

your welcome :)
I would try to get each fan runnig with 3 or 4 pins attached to the motherboard headers. If you plug into the power supply it will be running 100% when ever its on. In order to use all four fans do what i did and just plug the exhaust fan into the cpu optional header.

I would ignore the adapters and first see if all the fans plug in on their own. Then I would set aside and ignore the adapters that cannot plug onto the motherboard fan header. Then from the remaining adapters findd which are compatible with the remaining fans.
If you still have a fan or two unplugged go ahead and send some pictures. I'll try my best to help :p

sorry for taking so long to reply I still have not figured this answer out. I havent had the time to try again in the last few days. I did hook up two fans, one to the opt_cpu and the other just to some random cha_fan, I still got two fans with leds that I havent hooked up.

I'm not sure on how to add the pic so let see if this works ^_^

this one shows the two wire coming for the front of the case, one is a led I think and the other is a 3 pin coming off the fan that gets pluged into a 2 pin that goes to the case controls switches.

this one is the three wires the come back out of the case controls. with the one on the left I take it to be the led (have no clue where to plug this in on the mobo) the middle is that fan 2 pin also it is split and end in two 2-pin ends.

this one show a few of the attachment that I have. I dont know if this is all of them or not ^_^

thanks for your help. let me know if I can provide you with more picture or other information. I will start searching for the answer after I post this and if I find out I will up date this post.

thanks again for all you help

Ok so any fans that you want to be controlled from the front panel should be plugged in there. I would recommend side panel fans to manually feed extra air to graphics card.

I looked up the storm trooper's owner manual online and looked at the fan controller. The 'large four pin' is a molex plug. Your PSU should have a cable with the female plug. On my box they called it a 'peripheral cable'. Use this cable to power the fan controller and its fans.

On the fanController there will also be 3 2-pin cables. Use those to power the LED lights on your fans if you want them on.

The fan controller will have a total of 4 3-pin power cables. 2 will be on separate grey cables and 2 on a brown cable. I would say to connect the more vital fans to the grey cables.

So summary, plug the fan controller into the PSU using the 'big four pin hole' cable from the psu. Take the 2 pin cables on the 2 led fans and plug them into the 2 pin cables on the fan controller. Take the 2 led fan power cables and plug them into the grey fan power cables from the fan controller.

I think I explained everything and it seems you wont need any of the adapters. YAY!!

If there is anything else, feel free to ask. But if I don't answer tomorrow it means I will be away from the computer for a few days.

Best of luck :)

I will try to monkey around with it to night and see what happens, if I cant figure it out again I will be back ^_^ it might be a few days for me to come back since the family will be here for a few days and hooking these fans up right now is not on my tops of my list.
