Hey guys. I recently built a new computer and sold my older one to my dad(for cheap). Anyway, basically we are both using ethernet cables. When his computer is on my latency is super high(450ms) but when i put his computer to sleep my latency is good(40ms). I have tried a variation of ethernet cables. and if I change them they generally work fine for 30 secs and then my ping is off the charts again. When i plug in my sisters laptop and my computer with ethernet my latency is good. So its just my dad's computer. I have had the modem reset, unplugged the router, and had the mediacom guy come out. He fixed it but 2 days later it isn't working again. Please help!

The switch could be negatively impacted by traffic generated from / to your dad's PC. I would do a anti virus / anti malware check on it, just to be sure he is clean. Is your father's machine running any print or file sharing services? Does it have some process that is stuck or constantly running (print job stuck in a queue that keeps retrying, uTorrent seeding, etc)?

How are you measuring the ping times? Is it what you are seeing in your games and where are you measuring them to? All of these things could impact what you are seeing as a slow ping.

I am measuring the ping with speed test and battlelog. Also i wanted to say, the only thing that is negatively impacted is my latency. bandwidth is still really good when his computer is on. I dont know if that would change anything.
