does anyone know why the r9 280x series cards went a 100$ more since launch? are they that confident in mantle to raise prices that high? I was considering buying one of these cards after christmas around February, but if they stay this high then im better off with team green with the 4gb 770 for just i bit higher in performance and price. if anyone could answer this I would greatly appreciate it.

All that is on the market right now in the R9 290 and 290X space is reference card designs, and to make matters worse, the 290 chips were slow to get to OEMs from AMD, causing demand to be higher than supply. This in combination with the LiteCoin .... people .... is causing the demand for lower level cards to spike. Wait until the marketplace has non reference designs and more supply after Christmas for the 290 and 290x, the prices for the lower cards will drop because miners will be buying up the 290s.

oh ok i see, so the the 290's and 290x's will be bought up instead of the 280x's once the reference coolers come out for them? I hope the reference coolers come out soon I really like the 280x card but I wont wait to long to do my build. If the do take to long I will just go ahead with the 770 4gb.

Whoever came up with these Bitcoins/Litecoins virtual currencies should be shot dead. Those sons of b!tches doing the mining are a bottomless black hole of electricity usage and giving problems to honest people looking for graphics cards. And all because of greed.

Not to mention what these virtual currencies are notoriously useful for...

yeah your right! I just want to play games on ultra with a steady 50+ fps rate and through high texture mods and more others in skyrim along with having a card to last a good 4 to 5 years if mantle proves successful.
