gtx 645 vs. 460

Solution
for the house if i needed gaming in different locations i would consider somehow adding monitors/mice/keyboards in different places
connected to one powerful pc (if such long cables are available and cause no issues)

-for laptops youtube search "linustechtips gaming laptop"
and watch some of those videos... the dude is very knowledgeable on what's good and not...

a card that made for pre-made computers like HP, Dell etc. and usually this card are not available in retail.

in case the 645 is worse than 650 (which is practically the same as 550ti) then the 460 will perform better... because 460 is somwhere between 550ti and gtx560 - only advantage would be that 600 series cards starting from 640 are kepler architecture - so it'll consume much less power and run cooler than the fermi card...

also 460 had a 192bit 768mb version and 256bit 1gb version... i guess you are looking at the latter which is the better one

i don't know how much they charge for those things but i would really recommend not bothering with alienware and building your own gaming pc... both cards are weak.. if you have a 1080p screen get a gtx650ti minimum... but the real sweetspot right now is gtx760

i know its expensive but they are not bad i got mine off my friend for 600 and it runs great and the 460 isnt weak at all i play all games at 1080p and on ultra and get about 50 fps on average never dipping below 40. i need something really compact in size and more console shaped and less box because i will be moving it alot but i need it to be atleast as good as my other alienware. i already have two gaming pcs but i want something small. would going with a gaming laptop be a good choice? i have a price cap at 1000 dollars.

you might need to go with intel to build a small but powerful pc, (i'd recommend a fx6300 for budget builds but they have only ATX boards if you get 970 or higher chipset) ... anyway - let us do a lil research and i guarantee we can build you a pc that will eat the alienware for breakfast and spit it out in the trash for that budget.

I live in Latvia, and we're a bit jealous of USA PC prices here in Europe :)

anyway - work has been keeping me extremely busy but i'll try to give you an idea why i think Alienware is a waste of money
here i did a quick pcpartpicker.com $811 build of a system similar or even better than the $999 Alienware X51

----------

Now Keep in mind -
- this comes with a nice premium very quiet cpu cooler from Noctua... you can save some money there by a cheaper brand or just leaving the stock cooler on.
- it has a Quality H87 motherboard from Asus - you can save some money there by chooseing a cheaper brand or lower chipset
- i chose the haswell i5 4570 cpu because i read intel has been hampering down the overclocking on h87 boards even with a "K" series CPU,
but if it's still possible i would recommend getting a 4670k instead so you can get extra performance by overclocking.
- I didn't pay too much attention to ram ... just grabbed one of the cheapest 1600mhz cl9 8GB dual channel kits
- This comes in a Mini-ITX case - might be slightly bigger than the Alienware but it's still very compact and easy to carry around,
- If you are fine with mATX size we can probably make it cheaper as well in terms of motherboard choices, might even be able to get something from AMD for cheap on that format
- And if You would be fine with going full standard ATX pc size - there we can make you a real budget AMD FX machine that will have great value for money
- Also i didn't include OS and mouse+keyboard, i mean that's up to each individual, and there's this thing called "Steam OS" coming

- so if you can confirm more specific details about the size, overclocking possibilities, whether you care about a quadcore
(the cheap haswell i3's are capable in gaming but not as good allround as the amd FX 6 core...)
and other details ... (i didn't include SSD .. and you can get 1TB HDD for similar price of the WD Black 500GB i included)...
then we can figure out a more specific build... but all in all it seems whatever specs i choose you could save atleast 1-2 hundred dollars compared to the Alienware and get better components...

interesting video they just released...
https://teksyndicate.com/videos/asrock-m8-mini-itx-build-overview
pay attention to the noise issues they talk about ... i bet the small alienware will suffer from smth similar and become noisy at full load..
which you can totally avoid with a build similar to the one i mentioned...

Actually just youtube search "tek syndicate mini itx" - they have a ton of useful videos with these kind of builds and cases... lots of stuff to learn there...

well i just want something that i can take to the living room and back to the bedroom almost all day without getting tired. and also this pc will mostly be played on a portable on-lap monitor so i dont have to mess with the tv. i just would like something really small so i can take it to some lan parties. i mean the alienware i have is ridiculously heavy and it really has nowhere to grab it and by the way its the aurora model for 1400. would a gaming laptop better suit my needs? i mean i have the other two desktops for upgrading and i know you cant really upgrade a laptop but the portability is amazing but i hate the batteries on laptops because they always seem to go dead on me and wont hold a charge i wish there was a charger that stops charging at 100 percent. what do you guys think i should do? i dont care for an ssd nor do i care to overclock. i dont plan on doing something amazing like run it on 4k resolution or on more than one screen. i just need it to play my games on either ultra or high on 1080p. i play skyrim and alot of rpgs. the only fps games i play is battlefield games and farcry 3. in fact this thing will be used mostly on my lap considering i have two other pcs one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom (yes in the bathroom, its the best alone time:)) please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!
