So this Christmas I'll have about $400 to spend and dont know what to get. Right now I'm considering getting the Sapphire R9 270X Toxic and the AMD FX 8320 for $380 on newegg. But, knowing the PS4 will last about 6-8 years that really interests me and i really want to play games like infamous, metal gear solid 5, and madden, plus use remote play with my ps vita.
Here are my system specs

CPU:AMD Athlon II X4 640
GPU:Radeon HD 5450
RAM:Hyper X Kingston Red 16GB
PSU:LSP 550
Motherboard:760GM-P23 (FX)

Solution
That really is a hard question.

On PS4 the only thing that is expensive in the future is the games you are buying. In PC gaming when steam is on sale even AAA games you can buy them for 50% upto 75% it about 20$ or less for a high grade game. On ps4 you wont have see that kind of sale maybe after 2-3 years they will cut off the price. And there's a ton of games lying around on steam, you can also access indie games that may have a great future ahead.

FX 8320 is a great CPU specially if you can overclock it to 4ghz or higher to match the FX 8350, because its basically the same chip. R9 270x is plently powerful enough you can get a decent performance on next gen titles can even run Bf4 on ultra., but if you can stretch your budget a...
It sounds like you prefer console. If you do decide the pc route then I really like your choices. And I think you found the best way to spend the money. However would you be upgrading the system for overclocking? If so then 550W seems low for a 8320 and 270.

Also upgrade your psu to 600W.

if you are buying games for ps4 5 games is worth 300$ already. While on PC you can get a lot of games specially on sale. if you can buy the graphics card you can aslo avail their promo

The only way I could stretch to a 280x would be to reduce the budget on the cpu so is there any other good card between the 270x and 280x that might not really affect the cpu budget?

imho this is a better upgrade. FX-6300 is a 95W CPU. Now you can keep your mobo:
