Upgrading from integrated graphics to dedicated GPU?

Hi, my friend just gave me his old AMD Radeon HD 7450 and my computer (ASUS) currently has an onboard graphics card. I was wondering how I would go about installing this new graphics card, seeing as I've run into more than a few problems attempting to do it thus far (mainly with installing drivers for the new graphics card, the AMD website is very unhelpful).

Thanks in advance for the help!

Solution
remember to connect the graphic card to the psu and the vga cable from the monitor to the graphic card NOT the motherboard.
then you can go to bios and disable intel integrated graphics.
to find drivers, of course it will be easier to get the cd but you can try manually updating them, by going to the device manager in the control panel and checking for the gpu driver update.
Ask your friend for the driver disk. Uninstall any drivers that you may have installed, and use the disk. I know others may say the opposite. But when I got my nvidia card, the disk drivers worked fine. Once they install, then try installing website drivers.

The HD7450 will not have a power connector from the PSU, it will draw all the power it needs from the PCI-e slot.

So simply install the new graphics card, change the bios settings and then install the new drivers? When I tried that the AMD tool couldn't detect my GPU and the tool to download the drivers kept crashing on install, which lead me to believe I may need to uninstall the drivers for the integrated card or disable it entirely.

I've tried to install "Catalyst Software Suite" three or four times and each time I've gotten an error on install stating "Application Install: install package failure!" so I figured I would try uninstalling old drivers or disabling the integrated graphics which I'm still unsure how to do.

How should I do that? I used Driver Fusion to remove the Intel drivers and then installed the new card and I'm still having the same issue. Cleaning out the registry did not help either.

I tried following these steps that I found in another thread but it didn't work.

1. Install driver fusion
2. Uninstall Intel graphic driver.
3. Reboot in safe mode
4. Clean Intel and AMD drivers with driver fusion.
5. Shut down.
6. Unplug your computer.
7. Install new graphic card in PCI-E 16x slot (upper one if you have more than one)
8. Plug all the required power connectors in your card.
9. Plug monitor into your new graphic card.
10. Plug back powercord into your computer.
11. Boot into windows and install new drivers and application profiles (they are separate files)
