Nope. There are Athlons, but they're just APUs with the graphics deactivated. Doesn't make their CPU cores any faster.

750k/760k..........but don't expect miracles. a new platform would take care of your problems.

the way i am looking at things is that the desktop is dieing, looks like there [amd, intel] into the tablet / laptop/ cellphone areas and that desktop is an afterthought and the desktop is just for you to guinneypig parts there going to want to use in mobial products. i mean when you read a review on a desltop chip and they talk about how well it should work in a moble applacation kinda tells me somthing . your now a beta tester for there products for what they want to try to use in a moble device. why do i want to build a nice desktop and be stuck with a chip thats aimed at that moble market? thats just how i feel its going. its sad but true.

compared to a 6300, it holds of very well. a 6800k will help but thats the best you can get and its not that much better

then again with $200 you could buy a 6300 and mobo

Or an 8320 and mobo.

The Athlon x4 760k for $90 is your best bet. It would only be a minor upgrade from your A10, but it will overclock a good bit higher assuming you have am A75 or A85 chipset, and a good aftermarket cooler. I know the 6800k usually overclocks a lot better than the 5800k so the 760k should overclock pretty well too.

But honestly, you have picked a bad platform for a 7970

That's not an upgrade over an A10-5800K. In fact it's a slight downgrade, since the otherwise identical cores in the 750K or 760K have slightly lower stock clocks (all of them can be overclocked though, and then stock clocks are meaningless).

A 6800K would be a waste of money. If you just overclock the 5800K by 2-300 MHz, you have exactly the same CPU performance. The CPU cores are identical in the 5800K and 6800K.

The Athlon X4 760K has the same CPU cores as the A10-5800K, but at lower clocks. You're telling him his best upgrade is a downgrade.

Well I agree he is not on a very good platform and doesn't have any good options from here, but Richland overclocks a LOT better than Trinity. I can get 4.7ghz x4 EASILY with my 6800k. 5.0ghz is attainable probably. The 760k is Richland like the 6800k, and will overclock a lot higher than his 5800k is capable of.

Originally I Crossfired the APU with a 6670 but it didn't really get the performance I needed... I uses the standard overclock 4.2
I'll probably get the 6800k i guess and a good aftermarket cooler and a new power supply.
thanks guys for your advice

didn't say anything. I answered his question. I didn't try to sell him something. If I did try to sell him something it wouldn't have been a lousy 6300.
